Domenico lomuto
BIO
"I can't hide behind lights and technology; I am reliant on a small camera, patience, and lots of optimism. But what I get in return is the chance to make an honest picture that people immediately know is a genuine moment, hopefully burrowing deep into their memories. Shadows, movements, glances, and hinted connections from that geometric illusion we call framing are the words of my street photography."
Domenico Lomuto is an Italian street photographer based in Rome and Los Angeles. He has been shooting for more than 20 years all around the world. He always believed in Street Photography as a powerful tool for storytelling.
"Being a Street Photographer is an attitude about living the moment and accepting failures. It is a personal Zen."
He earned a Master's degree in Photography and Visual Arts from the European Institute of Design in Rome, then moved to New York to pursue his career in Advertising and Design. Never one to limit himself, he founded his own marketing and promotional company after years in the industry. From 2005 the company expanded to offices in Rome, Milan, and international offices in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. His work leads him to travel extensively, especially to Asia and North America; a tiny camera is always his companion, and his work comes from these unique explorations. In 2019 he published "Cathay," a collection of more than 250 images of "his" China, where he lived between factories and megacities for over a decade.
Domenico is one of the major Leica Collectors in Europe, attending the prestigious WestLicht Auction in Vienna several times. He was a member of the Leica Society International for many years. He won the prestigious Grand Prix Francis Gamichon as Best Young European Advertising Photographer in Paris in the late '90s.
